Operation SOPHIA: working arrangement with UNODC
On 24 November 2016 the EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia’s Commander, Rear Admiral Enrico Credendino and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Ambassador Yury Fedotov, signed a working arrangement aimed at establishing cooperation in different areas of mutual interest between the two organizations.
The signing ceremony took place at the UNODC HQ in Vienna, at the presence of Ambassador Didier Lenoir, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the International Organisations in the Austrian Capital.
The working arrangement is aimed at fostering cooperation between Operation Sophia and UNODC in the fight against migrant smuggling/human trafficking and illicit arms trafficking, also encompassing the organization of training activities and the exchange of knowledge and support.
