Agreement of cooperation signed between EUNAVFOR MED and EUROJUST
On October 1, in Rome, Brigadier General Maurizio Riccò, Chief of Staff of the European Headquarters and Eurojust’s President, Ms Michèle Coninsx, signed a Letter of Understanding on Cooperation, establishing a framework to strengthen coordination and communication in the fight against illegal immigrant smuggling.
The agreement was signed during an official meeting held by the Italian National Anti-Mafia and Counterterrorism Prosecutor in Rome. The parties expressed their commitment to exchange strategic information of a non-operational nature, expertise and experience in the field of illegal immigrant smuggling.
Launched last 22 June 2015 with the main objective of undertaking systematic efforts to identify, capture and dispose of vessels used by migrant smugglers or traffickers, EUNAVFOR MED, has set a wide net of cooperation with all the main actors currently dealing with migration. The agreement signed with Eurojust is another key-step towards the common objective of stopping the human traffickers in the Mediterranean Sea.
