EUNAVFOR MED’s Operation Commander provides mission update in Bruxelles
During a two days visit to Bruxelles, Rear Admiral (UH) Enrico Credendino , EUNAVFOR MED Operation Commander, together with Lieutenant General Wolfgang Wosolsobe , Director General of the EU Military Staff, has provided to the Subcommittee on Security and Defense of the Europe Parliament an update about the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) operation which contributes to disrupt the business model of human smuggling and trafficking networks in the Southern Central Mediterranean.
The visit ended with a press conference held today, together with General Mikhail KOSTARAKOS , Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, in the Justus Lipsius building.
EUNAVFOR MED operation SOPHIA , launched on the 22nd of June 2015, has entered its second phase last October 7th. Until now the Operation contributed to save more than 5700 people while 43 people have been reported to the Italian Authorities as possible smugglers and 46 boats have been removed from illegal organizations’ availability.
