First official visits of Rear Admiral Andrea Romani
Recently, after taking the tactical command of Sophia assets at sea, op SOPHIA Force Commander, Rear Admiral Andrea Romani had the chance to visit the Spanish frigate Canarias in operation at sea and Air Force Detachment deployed in Sigonella Air Base, where the Spanish detachment Grappa and the Luxembourg are based.
During his visit, Rear Admiral Andrea Romani gave a short speech to the military personnel of the contingents, highlighting the importance of the activity carried out.
In Sigonella Airbase, the Force Commander was given a brief by the “Grappa” Detachment Force Commander and an aircraft capability brief. Then, the Admiral visited the aircraft and was briefed on the search systems and on how the aircrew work on board to provide the information images to the FHQ embarked on the flagship.
The second part of the visit took place in the Luxemburg Air detachment, where he met one of the two crews of the Seagull aircraft. The Admiral stressed the importance of the work carried out by the air asset and his crews in providing important real time information about the operational maritime scenario.
Later in the same day, the Rear Admiral Romani met the staff of the Forward Logistic Base (FLB) in Augusta IT Navy Base and visited the offices and the logistic premises available for the support of personnel and units involved in the EUNAVFORMED Operation. The visit ended with words of appreciation for the availability and effectiveness of this important logistics asset.
