New naval asset for EUNAVFOR MED operation Sophia
Today, while in Augusta Harbour, the German Minehunter FGS WEILHEIM has joined EUNAVFOR MED operation SOPHIA 
after being part of Standing NATO Mine Counter-Measures Group TWO (SNMCMG2).
Simultaneously, the German Frigate FGS AUGSBURG has left the European Task Force which, since June the 22nd, contributes to disrupt the business model of human smuggling and trafficking networks in the Southern Central Mediterranean sea.
Last October the 7th EUNAVFOR MED operation Sophia moved to its second phase in high seas whose mandate foresees the boarding, search, seizure and diversion of smugglers’ vessels.
