Operation Commander meeting with Algerian authorities
In the framework of a wide range of visits to the regional Countries, the Operation Commander of EUNAVFOR MED, Rear Admiral (UH) Enrico Credendino, on 16th July met the Algerian Officials in Algiers.
During the meeting with Minister of foreign affairs Ramtane Lamamra, Admiral Credendino received the appreciation for the EU commitment in the region. The Minister Lamamra expressed also the will to cooperate stressing the importance of the EU intention to tackle the root causes of the human smuggling.
The Operational Commander, therefore, met the Commander of the Algerian Naval Forces General Mohamed Larbi Haouli who illustrated the work already done by Algerian authorities to stop irregular migration.
EUNAVFOR MED, launched on 22 June 2015, is one element of a broader EU comprehensive approach to migration which aims to disrupt the business model of the smugglers and therefore prevent that more innocent people are put at risk.
