Operation Commander’s meetings in United States
In the framework of a wide range of visits to the regional Countries, the Operation Commander of EUNAVFOR MED, Rear Admiral (UH) Enrico Credendino, on 28 and 29 July paid a visit to Washington, during which he had meetings with various authorities of the Departments of State and Defense and the Coast Guard of the United States, and to New York for his first official meeting with the UN community.
The Admiral explained to UN stakeholders the European Union, representatives of the Secretariat, member countries of the Security Council and other member states of the United Nations the mission initiative against human trafficking in the Mediterranean and the terms of the operation and what happens in the first phase.
EUNAVFOR MED, launched on 22 June 2015, is one element of a broader EU comprehensive approach to migration which aims to disrupt the business model of the smugglers and therefore prevent that more innocent people are put at risk.
