The Chief executive of the European Defence Agency visits EUNAVFOR MED operation Sophia Headquarters
Yesterday 1st February 2016, the Chief executive of the European Defence Agency, Jorge Domecq, has visited the Operational Headquarters of EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia.
Mr. Domecq and his delegation were welcomed by admiral Enrico Credendino, EUNAVFOR MED Operation Commander , who led them in the Headquarters where they discussed about the cooperation already in place and ways to further strengthen ties.
During the visit, Mr. Domecq took also the opportunity to witness how and where EUNAVFOR MED operational activities are planned, directed and followed, entering the Joint Operation Centre.
Launched last 22 June 2015 with the main objective of undertaking systematic efforts to identify, capture and dispose of vessels used by migrant smugglers or traffickers, EUNAVFOR MED operation Sophia has set a wide net of cooperation with main actors currently dealing with migration and with various European Agencies. The contribution provided by the European Defence Agency is another key-step towards the common objective of stopping the human traffickers in the Mediterranean Sea.
