The Spanish frigate “Canarias” concludes her Operation SOPHIA deployment. Welcome on board to her sister ship “Victoria”
On June 24th the Spanish Frigate Canarias has completed her OpSophia deployment. During these 5 months, she have sailed more than 25,000 nautical miles in 129 days at sea. In this period, her crew has always been eager to improve its abilities and it has carried out an impressive work showing temple and fortitude.
During this time deployed, ESPS “Canarias” has rescued more than 3.500 migrants and coordinated the rescue of another 3.700 persons by other ships, additionally she has neutralized 27 boats used by the traffickers and helped to apprehend several suspected human traffickers.
On June 23rd, the Spanish warship will complete the handover to her sister ship ESPS Victoria, in the port of Catania, Sicily. ESPS Victoria will then take over the vital role of fighting the human trafficking taking place in the Central Mediterranean sea.
